Mandatory for all in Singapore to wear mask except for minor and doing strenuous exercise

Covid19 Singapore Mandatory Wear Mask

As part of Singapore’s government effort to prevent further spread of the coronavirus, stricter measures are placed with immediate effect – everyone to wear a mask when they step out or in public

However, there are exemptions for those engaging in strenuous exercise and children below the age of two, as medical experts recommend against them wearing the mask. This was announced by National Development Minister Lawrence Wong at a media conference on Tuesday (14 April 2020).

People may remove their masks when engaging in exercise such as running or jogging, but they must put them on afterwards. However, this does not mean that one should be out from home, except for groceries or essentials.

First-time offenders will risk a $300 fine and repeat offenders will face higher fines or prosecution in court for egregious cases.

During the previous measures, first-time offenders were issued a written warning, while second-time offenders fined $300, and those nabbed a third time then charged in court. The stiffer penalties mean that the public has not fully aware of the virus outbreak situation.

From Sunday, 12 April 2020, The new measures were in place, announced by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli in a Facebook post.
