Fine Imposed for Protection of Singapore Railway System

In the mist of recent cranes accidents that has happened in Singapore, the Land Transport Authority has raise concern over the safety aspect of construction site working near the railway system which might endanger the safety of the railway and commuters.

They has also extended the Railway Protection Zone and Railway Safety Zones to 40 meters and 60 meters respectively from the outermost edge of the rapid transit structure.

Under Sections 25 and 26 of Rapid Transit Systems Act, any person who wilfully endangers the safety of any person being upon the railway or wildfully causes damage to the railway shall be guilty of an offence and may be fined up to a maximum of S$ 10,000 or S$ 200,000 respectively. In addition, the offender may be subjected to an imprisonment term.
